Authorization renewal

The authorization to contract is valid for five years. In order to continue your activities involving public contracting, you must apply for renewal at least 90 days prior to the expiry date of your current  authorization.

  • If this deadline is met
The authorization will be valid until we have processed your renewal application. In the interim, your company will be allowed to continue fulfilling its current contracts and to sign new ones.
  • If your application is not filed on time
Your company will be removed from the Register of firms authorized to practise (REA). Once its authorization expires, your company will no longer be able to enter into any new public contracts. However, you must continue with any existing contracts and submit a list of such contracts to us.
  • Obligation to have authorization
It is compulsory to have a valid authorization to contract for the duration of the contract. If you let your authorization expire while the contract is in force, you may be subject to monetary administrative penalties ($1,000 for sole proprietorships and $2,500 in all other cases).
  • Respondent
You must be the authorized respondent for your company in order to complete and submit a renewal application.

Non-renewal

If you do not intend to renew your authorization to contract, you must apply for non-renewal. It is not sufficient to let your authorization expire.

  • Even if we receive your non-renewal request in advance, your authorization will be valid until its expiry date.
  • When your authorization expires, you will receive a message informing you that the company has been removed from the Register of firms authorized to practise (REA) and may not enter into any new public contracts with a value exceeding the applicable government thresholds.
  • If you still have public contracts in progress, you must complete them and provide us with a detailed list within 10 days of the expiry of your authorization. Your company may also be subject to monetary administrative penalties for allowing its contracting authorization to expire, even when it is obligatory until the end of the contract.
  • To obtain a new authorization, you will need to re-apply, with all the necessary information and documents.
